PSY was recently involved in a netizen controversy in China that demanded 3 million Chinese Yuan for his appearance fees.
On November 26th, in the local Chinese reports, it said that PSY reached an agreement with CCTV to make a guest appearance on February 9th on a special Lunar New Year TV show. However, PSY had demanded 3 million Chinese Yuan (approx. $500K USD) for his 30-minute appearance.
Chinese netizens expressed their contempt when the report was released to the public. Most of the negative comments were pointed at how absurd the high amount PSY had demanded and argued that the money should be spent on those less fortunate.
YG Entertainment, PSY’s agency, released an official statement denying the report and said, “It is true that we are receiving a lot of offers from China through many different channels. But we haven’t accepted any of the offers yet.” They also denied the 3M Chinese Yuan appearance fee, “It’s absolutely not true. The guarantee fee is usually offered from the inviting party and they control it. We never demanded that amount.”
In other related news, PSY is scheduled to perform in Thailand this November 28th, and will fly to Hong Kong to perform at the “2012 MAMA Awards” on November 30th.
