The romantic drama “You Who Came From The Stars” is a story that centers between an alien and a human is being accused of being a product of plagiarism. The cliche story of an inhuman falling for a feeble minded human, many stories contain this element such as SuperMan and Twilight. Similar to Superman, a spacecraft crash lands somewhere, possibly in the Joseon era. According to cartoonist Kang Kyung Ok, there was a vivid accusation that the drama is in fact a copyright infringement of her fantasy romance cartoon “Seolhee.” A major coincidence in the plots keen resemblance.
Kang Kyung Ok took the matters to her blog and wrote, “Anyone can make references to the same time period, but the story of a person who does not grow old for 400 years living in modern times and dealing with his fate is much too similar.”
Seolhee ” …is based on an event that took place 400 years ago during the time of Prince Gwanghae of the Joseon Dynasty,” said Kang Kyung Ok. “Aliens treat the main character so she looks young forever. She lives over 400 years, and returns to Korea to reunite with a person who looks exactly like someone who helped her during her childhood.” She added, “The setting in the drama is very similar with the exception that the male and female characters have been switched. There are only minor differences in the order of how things are revealed throughout the story.”
The producers of the drama Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) program “You Who Came From The Stars” and the HB agency have called the accusations and any similarities to Miss.Ok’s accusations that there is no truth to it, that it is pure nonsense since they claim to have no knowledge of such a piece of literature.
