SM Entertainment has disclosed on June 1oth that SHINee’s leader, Onew, recently underwent surgery to remove polyps from his vocal chords. He is currently in recovery and resting at home.
The surgery took place on June 3rd, just a day after the SHINee World 3 concert in Shanghai, China. For those who may not be familiar with the terminology, polyps are bump-like growths on the vocal chords that can occur from instances of vocal strain, i.e yelling too loudly or singing forcefully for too long a period of time. They are common in singers and generally easy to remove, with minimal recovery time.
An SM rep made a statement about the idols’ current state, claiming “There is no effect on his daily life, and he is receiving treatment as an outpatient.” Onew’s vocal issues are the reason behind his not being able to participate in the Music Bank show in Brazil, as well as the Singin’ in the Rain musical that he was supposed to be in originally.
Join us in wishing leader Onew a smooth recovery and a quick, healthy return.
