CL, DEAN, and Eric Nam were all featured in an online article from the American news outlet, Time. The article and video interviewed each artist and discussed the future of Asians in mainstream American music. CL has been hard at work on her solo debut in America.
“To me being creative is expressing myself…the only difference would be that I’m singing in English”, says CL. DJ and producer Diplo praised CL’s efforts in America saying she has been building up her presence and “gaining fans from the ground up.“
Korean American Eric Nam says there are no mainstream Asians in music in the United States. Eric says that:
“the goal and the dream would be to crossover to the [United] States… to be able to perform in what I consider my first home.”
R&B artist DEAN has worked in America making music with various producers and artists. He noted the diverse cultures in America and said that it will take some time before his big break in the United States. K-Pop music writer Jeff Benjamin talked about DEAN’s unique approach to his music. He is “coming up strictly on his own terms…and getting the right people that will ensure people are talking about him”, says Benjamin.
