Ailee has been having a difficult time of it recently, what with the release of her private pictures and the resulting media whirlwind. But she has been moving forward like a trooper. Continuing her current promotions for her Japanese debut and even appearing at the 2013 MelOn Music Awards.
It may have been that she felt that she could handle being on stage performing, even with her emotions sure to be all over the place, but I am unsure if she was ready for the out pouring of support that she was shown. Artist after artist received a mic in hand and one way or another mentioned Ailee in their speech. From supportive words to thank you’s all were said in encouragement of the situation Ailee is in.
Ailee took to the stage twice to perform. First with the hip hop duo Baechigi, as the performance concluded and the crowd cheered, it slowly became clear that the audience was chanting Ailee’s name. Ailee could clearly be seen tearing up at the show of support. Her next performance was with Lim Kim, Huh Gak and Shin Seung Hun where they performed the song “My Melody“. The song was performed right after Ailee’s solo “Romeo & Juilette” at the beginning of which she had shouted to the crowd “Let me hear you scream” clearly showing the world that she is not letting the current situation affect her completely. But when it came time to perform the emotional ballad and the crowd once again started to show her their support, Ailee could not hide her tears and stepped back momentarily to compose herself.
It may have been the accumulation of all this wonderful support and the emotional toll of performing in front of everyone but when Ailee was announced as one of 2013 MelOn Top Ten Artist’s of the Year, one could see even before she took the mic that Ailee was breaking down. She attempted to give her thank you speech but was overcome by her emotions. She thanked everyone for supporting her over the year and believing in her even with everything going on.
It is truly amazing this young woman is standing tall seeing everything that is going on around her. It can only be from shows of support like this and her family that she is able to do so.
