Adding to the rape case he is being tried for, actor Park Si Hoo is now being sued by a civil group, Upright Opportunity, who claim that he and his legal team have violated a law that deals with sexual assault cases. The suit was filed against the actor and his friend ‘K‘ on April 30th.
Upright Opportunity claim that when they revealed the messages from KakaoTalk, they forgot, or intentionally chose not to blur out the name of the victim, a 22 year old acting trainee only known as ‘A‘. They claim this is a violation of the law that protects the victim’s privacy.
They stated that, “It is difficult to forgive the actor and his lawyers, as public figures, for using the media to make the police look as if they’re conducting biased investigations without objective evidence. The identities and phone numbers of the victim and her family have been revealed and this should be considered a serious violation.”
The messages deal with the alleged assault that took place on February 14th of this year between the 34 year old actor and the victim. Park, ‘A’ and ‘K’ went out for drinks and returned to his apartment. It was there that the sexual assault allegedly took place.
Witnesses at the bar they went to testify that ‘A’ was not drunk when she left the bar, nor did she look to be. But, ‘A’ said that she felt, “hazy.” There were no traces of date rape drugs in her system when they tested her.
Park said that, “While it is true we met through a mutual friend at a bar there was mutual interest as man and woman, all relations we had were consensual, I have nothing to hide surrounding the allegations, and this will be revealed upon further investigation.”
Further details have complicated the case. More text messages, sent by ‘A’ to her friend concerning the fact that she was sorry that she had slept with the actor, and wondering if she should have asked for a larger settlement. These details have been cited in the case. Park had offered ‘A’ money to settle out of court, but she refused the amount and demanded more.
‘A’ was reported to have said that she would, “show off her best acting skills during the police investigation, and make it seem like I’m the biggest victim.”
The case looked as if it would swing in Park Si Hoo’s favor. But a surprising twist took the case in a different direction. The lie detector tests given to him by the Seoul Police Dept. favored ‘A’s testimony over Park’s.
The case is predicted to take a long time, and given it’s history, will be difficult in predicting the truth. If anything is certain, it’s that Park’s career will have a long way to go before it recovers, if it recovers at all.
