The highly popular rap survival show, ‘Show Me The Money,’ is getting a fifth season, and this time, they are recruiting from across the Pacific Ocean.
Mnet stated on January 27, “We will be recruiting rappers for ‘Show Me the Money 5’ from February 1 to March 6. We will be scaling up this year, so anyone who′s a rapper can apply for the first round of ‘Show Me the Money 5’, which will be held not only in Korea but the U.S. as well this year.“
‘SMTM’ has been gaining speed with each season. Last year, quite a stir was caused when Song Minho, also known as Mino from Winner, and Basick who is signed under WA Entertainment, were the final two left standing. Many fans thought Mino would win especially since Bobby from the yet-to-debut group, iKON, had won season 3, but Basick took final place.
‘SMTM 5’ is set to air in May and it is said this will be the biggest season yet, with a stronger production team and an even bigger season expectation. As fans await with anticipation on who will sign on as a producer and participant, SMTM is going global by tapping into its popularity amongst foreign fans overseas.
Mnet added, “With the new season coming up, we were flooded with requests from rappers abroad saying they wanted to participate in ‘Show Me the Money’. By expanding the opportunity to rappers abroad, we want to introduce a more diverse group of talented rappers this season. You can look forward to increased competition among the rappers.“
Open recruitment will be held between February 1 to March 6. Whether you are a man, woman, amateur or renowned in the underground scene, you are able to apply, no matter how old you are.
If you are interested in applying, you can do so on the ‘Show Me the Money 5’ official website or their official Instagram. If you are applying via Instagram, they request that you post a 15-second video clip with the hashtags #쇼미더머니지원 and #쇼미지원 included. For more information, visit the official website.
This should be an interesting season. I wasn’t as big into the hip-hop/rap scene previously but I think I will catch this season as I have gotten more active in that type of music. Will you be auditioning or watching? Let us know!
