On August 30th, SHINEE‘s KEY dropped the music video to his duet track ‘Hate that…’ featuring GIRL’S GENERATION member and labelmate TAEYEON. Following image teasers, this release marks his first solo music since his 2019 repackaged album, ‘I Wanna Be’, featuring the identically named title track and
(G)I-DLE‘s JEON SOYEON.
The day of the drop matched his enlistment into the military for compulsory service. Ending his servitude in October last year, he then returned being a main cast member on tvN‘s lyric solving variety show, ‘Amazing Saturday’. Coincidentally, duet partner TAEYEON soon joined the show as they show their friendly chemistry being K-Pop seniors in the industry.
‘Hate That…’ discusses the bitter feelings post-breakup; hating that the other lover is happy and hoping they feel the pain as much as they do. The R&B track strums along with guitar and drum melody as the vocals from both stand out in the contemplative sound scape. Harmonies team together to form a flawless unison leading to the song’s closure.

KEY ‘HATE THAT…’ FEAT. TAEYEON MV:
Watching the MV, it opens with the male vocalist flying high in space alone. The duet partner in contrast is abandoned on a boulder on Earth. Thinking back and forth, he suddenly realises the female songstress is stranded on the isolated rock. Frustratingly, he smashes the escape button as the space pod gets ejected out of the station. Complications occur as the pod goes into an emergency. With water leaking and red alarm bells beaming of danger, it is not until the end we what happened. With the singer sitting in a café facing no one, the soprano stands outside with an umbrella as she walks away. We see later on TV breaking news that a lady was saved from the exact same boulder the ‘Weekend’ singer was deserted.
KEY‘s new single, ”Hate That…’ featuring TAEYEON is available now!
