Many K-pop groups that were aiming for a May comeback date are working to reschedule for sometime in July.
Due to the SEWOL ferry incident, the world of K-pop has come to a halt as idols take time to give support, show their respect, and grieve. Therefore, artists who were aiming for a May comeback have been pushed back. In addition, with the Brazil World Cup beginning in June, there will likely be another break in K-pop activities. July appears to be the best bet for comebacks, to avoid clashing with the World Cup.
There is also another reason why July may be the month to grab. If too many artists try to release in May, there will be a larger competition in the market for sales, as well as spots on music programs. This may cause some groups to be left out. It is generally smarter to select a time to release an album where it’s not as competitive, so as not to be overlooked. EXO, Block B, B2ST, VIXX, and Infinite are all currently lined up for May at this time, as well as several other artists. As you can see, May is already likely to be hectic.
It is projected that the Korean music industry should pick back up in around 2-3 weeks’ time. Once the music programs begin again, there will be a few comebacks, but no one wants to be the first. June isn’t entirely out of the question; artists and labels will have to weigh their options and decide the best way to go.
Stay tuned, K-pop lovers! Things may seem up in the air right now as far as when our favorite artists will share their new music with us. But, in the end, all will come together as it should. Stay hopeful as we patiently wait for confirmed comeback dates and updates.
