On September 3rd, the entertainment and media contents company, CJ E&M, have stated that the format for the hit program “Grandpas Over Flowers” has been sold to one of the biggest broadcasting company in the United States – NBC. Through their distributing agency, known as Small World IFT, the agency will handle the program with the hopes of going abroad in other countries that speak English. “Grandpas Over Flowers” is now the first program to be exported to the major broadcasting company.
The American version will have a new title called “Better Late than Never”, the program will hold the same concept of grandpa’s entering a peculiar stage in their life unexpectedly and hold that key super natural element that made the show. At this very moment to prepare for the shows air in early 2015, some of the top actors who are in their prime are being looked up in Hollywood for the role. Academy Award winning producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will be taking part in the project. The two are responsible for producing hits such as “The Bucket List,” “Hairspray,” “Chicago,” TV series, “Drop Dead Diva,” “SMASH,” and “Happyland” to name a few, so the popular TV show is in good hands.
The head of the Korean broadcasting company tvN, Lee Deok Jae spoke on the deal stating it’s one step forward due to creating quality plots and its proven success, “Korea′s broadcast program formats are now thinking outside of the usual box and growing as a new hallyu brand, Compared to the simple program sales system of the past, the creative planning abiltiies and completeness of our broadcast contents are being praised through the much evolved format exports. We′ll continue to strengthen our content competitiveness and contribute tot he purchase and development industry.”
Fans will be critical but as it appears the show is in good hands with its producers and company who are known to produce knockouts and fan favorites. Be sure to stay tuned to Officially KMusic as the story develops.
