On October 5th, boy group SEVENTEEN released a video announcing their upcoming special album, ‘Semicolon’. Over the next two days, the group dropped teaser pictures for their 1995 and 1996 year born members: S Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo and Woozi Check the video and photos down below!
SEVENTEEN ‘SEMICOLON’ ANNOUNCEMENT VIDEO:
The video, named ‘The Invitation For Youth ‘; [Semicolon]’ show the boys celebrating their time as young adults. By visiting a train, we see a card that has the message ‘work hard’. However, it cuts to the members having fun together. Being with each other, they lightheartedly drink and have a good time doing various activities such as bowling. We see two other cards that read ‘play hard’ and ‘rest hard’ before a final shot all the members surrounding a classic convertible. Dressed in warm toned suits under shining lights, they do a last toast before looking into the camera. A final phrase displays on screen stating to ‘Take a break, there’s a long journey ahead of you’.
Fans speculate this does link to the purpose of a semicolon; it is used to separate two independent clauses in a sentence. Used generally for the reader to take a break during a sentence before processing the remaining related clause. This taking of a break shows their message to youth to asking them that sometimes, it is good to rest from life a little.
Moving on to the concept photos, the older members of the group showcase two different charms. As each member has two photos, the former displays a boyish vibe, whilst the latter mature but youthful look. The earlier photos featured colourful striped shirts, jumpers and school uniform like blazers. Shot in a predominantly white set, their brighter visuals shine through. In contrast, the maturer photos feature higher fashion. With button ups and suits the sets are more varied in colour and design. The framing of the images looks as if the members are on the cover of a magazine.
This comeback marks their return in four months since their last release, 8th mini album ‘Heng:garæ’. Featuring the hit title track, ‘Left & Right’ the album became their first million seller selling over 1.4 million copies. More recently the group released their 2nd Japanese mini album, ’24H’ in September which featured the same named title track.
SEVENTEEN‘s special album, ‘Semicolon’ will be released on October 19th, 6PM KST!
