The 5th annual MelOn Music Awards are over and the winners have been decided. There was much hugging and crying involved from the winners and nominees alike.
This year the event, which has established itself as one of the top music award shows for Korea, was held at the Olympic Gymnastic Arena in Seoul. The MC’s this year were Chanyeol, Kai, Suho and Baekhyun of the group EXO, as well as actress Lee Yu Bi. The 5 of them had a lovely chemistry on stage and all gave the appearance of having been hosting events like this for years.
The Top Ten Artist’s for 2013 had been announced early but each of the winners had a chance to come up on stage and receive the award as well as say a few words. The winners of Top Ten for 2013 in no particular order were, B2ST, SHINee, Busker Busker, IU, G-Dragon, Sistar, EXO, Ailee, Dynamic Duo and Davichi.
The presenters for the 2013 awards were just as star studded as the nominee list for the awards. With the likes of Kim Yoon Hye, Baek Ji Young, Hong Seok Chun, Shin Seung Hun and In Sooni all presenting awards at the show. Probably the cutest presenter was child actress Park Minha who elicited laughter and smiles during her so perfect presentation.
As for the awards themselves they broke down as follows:
Best New Artist: BTS and Lim Kim
Best Rap/Hip Hop: Baechigi
Best R&B Ballad: K.Will and Huh Gak
Best Soundtrack: Master’s Sun Soundtrack – T Yoonmirae – ‘Touch Love’
Best Song Writer: Shinsadong Tiger
Best Music Video: B2st
Netizen Popularity Award: EXO
Hot Trend: Crayon Pop and Rose Motel
MBC Music Star Award: f(x)
Performing Arts Award: Shin Seung Hun
The big three, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Artist of the Year, were announced in succession after all the performances at the end of the show.
Song of the Year went to the 12 member group EXO for their song “Growl“. The boys were truly stunned and overjoyed at the win; not forgetting to thank their fans in multiple languages. Before they left the stage some of the boys had even started crying with joy at their win.
Album of the Year went to Busker Busker for their second album. Brad was the only member present at the awards ceremony and during his thank you speech he thanked his members as well as his lovely wife who was there attending the awards ceremony with him.
The Artist of the Year is the main award for the MelOn Music Awards and this year SHINee took the honor of receiving the award. For a full recap on their reaction to the win please check out the article on them here.
