BTS member J-Hope has caught us all in a daydream with the release of his first solo mixtape ‘Hope World‘ and the title track ‘Daydream‘.
We all know and love J-Hope‘s versatility, energy and endless enthusiasm, and those attributes are never more evident than in his first solo mixtape. Without the other members of BTS around him, he is given full reign to shine and those qualities are what drives much of ‘Daydream‘.
‘Daydream‘ drops a playful and funky approach that incorporates a range of percussion elements that give the track a relaxed retro feel that is reminiscent of dance/funk tracks from the late 70s and early 80s. J-Hope delivers a sense of energy, playfulness and vitality to the track and in being the centre of attention of the song he is able to show off the vocal range and versatility that was so evident in his 2016 track ‘Mama‘.
The track flows along at a smooth mid-tempo pace, which incorporates moments of brilliance like the easy, bright sing-song chorus, the playful verses, the quiet pre-chorus and the sleepy hook. All of these elements could mean that the song is a hot mess, but it’s testament to his versatility and talent as a performer that he is able to tie all these components together to deliver us a definite jolt of coolness.
‘Daydream‘s appeal will be diverse, as it builds on aspects from pop, funk and hip-hop to give us a finished product that will have you grooving along all day.
The clip that comes with the track is as funky and fun as the song itself. It’s bright and colourful and suits the mood of the song. J-Hope has hinted that there is another member of BTS featured in the clip, which has sent fans into meltdown trying to find out who it is. Do you know who it is?
Watch BTS’ J-Hope in ‘Daydream’
We all know how successful BTS have become as a group, but this is the first mixtape to be released by a member in a while. RM and Suga (as AgustD) have both previously released mixtapes with Suga‘s released back in 2016. Let’s hope that the release of J-Hope‘s ‘Hope World‘ and ‘Daydream‘ marks a new era of solo and sub-unit projects for the group.
What do you think of the title track ‘Daydream‘? Have you listened to the rest of ‘Hope World‘ yet? Would you like to see the remaining members of BTS release solo mixtapes? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
