Sung In Kyung, former member of A’st1, who has been battling thymus cancer since 2011 has passed away at the young age of 24 on February 22nd.
The news spread quickly when fellow member Park Jung Jin updated his twitter, he tweeted, “My dongseng member who performed with me as A’st1 went to heaven today… It must have been hard while getting chemotherapy, but In Kyu always answered the phone with a bright voice…I hope that he can rest comfortably in heaven… February 22… Asan Hospital Funeral Home.”
Jung Jin later on added the room number so that fans and In Kyu’s loved ones can send Sung In Kyu off.
A’st1, which included Chinese and Japanese members, debuted in 2008 and had participated in the OST for KBS’ ‘Boys Over Flowers’; and later on disbanded in 2009.
To the knowledge of everyone, Thymus cancer is a type of cancer that grows on the thymus, a small organ placed right between the lungs. The cancer is usually discovered after the patient begins having breathing problems.
Back in 2009, Sung In Kyu had told his fans about his cancer and through his blog he wrote, “Right now, it’s hard to sing due to the lack of breath, but I won’t give up my dreams. I’ll show you. I’ll get all of my treatments and return with good news,” and he added, “See you soon on the stage. I love you.”
Condolence to the family and friends of Sung In Kyu, and may he rest in peace.
