On October 5th, mega rookies aespa released the music video to their new title track, ‘Savage’. This comes off their 6-track 1st mini album which also dropped at the same time. Debuting in October 2020, this marks the first sort of any album release. The SM Entertainment act came back earlier this year with their smash hit ‘Next Level’ in May. 5 months on, the track still has a stronghold on the Korean charts, notably keeping a steady #6 at the time of this latest EP.
Lyrically, the lead single discusses the girls being savage wanting to break expectations. They also reference much of the girl group’s growing lore with their world ‘Kwangya’ and terms like ‘SYNK DIVE’. The entertainment company has previously released an ‘episode 1’ of their story prior to their May single, ‘Next Level’ however have yet to drop a sequel on us. Otherwise, the song features the futuristic feel with the synths and sound effects used. The minimal chorus works effectively as the members switch between bright and charismatic raps, in addition to soaring pitch notes to show their young prowess.

AESPA SAVAGE MV:
Surprisingly, the music video opens with a scene showing the members in a dystopian desolate field. With the ground burnt to ashes, a black mamba towers over the girls. Transitioning to a stage featuring a massive vortex like light installation in the abandoned area, we see the dance routine for the tune. Matching the assertive vibe, the group joins their ae selves to perform the choreography as eight. Elsewhere, the MV references plenty of black mambas or snakes being destroyed with the weapons held by the members. From guns to enhancing gloves, they all create further intrigue to the real story. This peaks when we see someone named Naevis and the quartet standing on a dreamy atmosphere above the clouds.
aespa‘s 1st mini album, ‘Savage’ featuring the identically named title track is available now!
