‘Auction,’ the online shopping site, has taken out references related to Crayon Pop on their website after seeing backlash from users.
The website had signed with the new idols to an advertising deal, making the five girls clear on their website. By any means, users began to leave the website and and complain about Crayon Pop’s supposed ties to IlBe, a controversial Korean web board associated with fringe groups and radical politics.
A speaker for the website said, “This action was taken due to the strong protests from our users. However, we can’t say for certain that Crayon Pop has been definitively dropped from our advertisements.”
They went on, “It is true for any company to pay attention to the situation when their advertising models bring forth cultural divisions, we are paying close attention to how the situation unfolds.”
