Typhoon Haiyan, known as Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, was an exceptionally powerful tropical cyclone that devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, in early November 2013. It is the deadliest Philippine typhoon on record, killing at least 6,069 people in that country alone.
SQ Ent decided to hold a special event for Christmas and to also raise funds for the victims of the horrific natural disaster in the Philippines on the 18th of December 2013 in Melbourne Australia. The night consisted of acoustic performances, KPOP dances and many more fun and exciting activities.
The charitable night started with Michael from the Story model (Check them out here). He performed 3 original songs on which he was still deciding the name for.
Next up was Kamikaze Mugen with a dance performance of a hit Kpop song ‘Growl’ by EXO. This group was put together at the last minute due to members being overseas or on holidays and they still managed to entertain the crown. All of this group likes Kpop and they cover kpop songs some of their favourites are B2st, Bigbang and more.
Following was Yuki, who was on a work holiday from Japan. Even though he is just started to learn English he performed hit songs from artists such a Bruno Mars. Yuki also sang a Japanese song which in English means ‘Give me wings.’ The crowd all got involved as a lot of them knew the song and the lyrics. Yuki’s favourite Kpop group is Bigbang and Kara. ‘Even though we don’t speak the same language. I really want to go over there to help all of them out, god bless.’
Soon after was Al Parkinson, who played a variety of original songs with her ukulele. She both warmed up the crown and got them involved in the performance also adding humour as a key concept in her performance.
Dru Chen was next, he is an amazing vocalist and producer who entertained the crowd and got them involved. His stunning vocals had everyone take a deep breath. His ability to sing beautifully and play guitar at the same time made the crowd love him even more. He performed all of his hit songs, ‘Love of my life’, ‘You Bring Out The Best In Me’, ‘This Christmas’ and ‘Turnaround.’
Shortly after Dru Chen was a performance by 2 members of Elixir who are currently under JYN Entertainment. These two girls performed 2 songs, one was ‘Missing you’ by 2ne1 and the other was ‘She Will be Loved’ by hit group Maroon 5. These girls showed why they are in the industry with their extremely pleasant vocal talents singing in both Korean and English. Showing their love for the victims of the disaster, they commented, ‘I just want everyone to know that we are thinking of them and we are hoping that everything will be okay, our hearts are with them.’
The last performance was a sub group of Kamitiage Mugan performing ‘Trouble Maker‘. This group put this song together at the last minute. It was the perfect song for the end of the heart-warming concert. ‘We wish we could actually be there to perform for these people affected. We can’t express how much we want to and how much we want to support you. If we had the funds we would fly over. God bless’
DarrenTP commented, “My prayers go out to friends, the families in the Philippines and all the rest who has suffered due to this tragedy. Have hope, keep the faith and stay strong.”
Thank you to SQent and all of the performcers for holding this amazing night so we can all help raise funds for those affected by this enormous disaster.
