On April 30th, duo B OF YOU’s (B.O.Y) managed entertainment company, The Music Works, announced the disbandment of the group. This was cited with member Song Yuvin terminating his contract due to its natural expiration and choosing not to renew, instead deciding to serve his time in the military for compulsory service. Hours later, the artist himself posted on his Instagram, where he had been quite active in recent weeks to deliver his personal statement. A rough fan translation can be read down below:
Fans of the duo have been left saddened by the sudden news as it seemed although the group were doing alright, however with little promotion after their previous comeback (their 2nd mini album, ‘Phase Two: WE’, featuring the pop ballad title track, ‘MISS YOU’, the group will quietly conclude their status as a duo.
The two members were formerly part of the 6-member boy group MYTEEN under the same label. Debuting in 2017, they too only had two releases before announcing their disbandment in 2019 partially due to lack of activities. During this time, these two guys would go to participate on Mnet’s idol survival show PRODUCE X 101, with both members being praised for their rich vocals and/or dancing capabilities, reaching into the top 21. Member Song Yuvin qualified into the finale however did not make it into the final lineup of the eventual winning group, X1.
Being the first participants in the show’s season to release any music after the program’s July conclusion, they released a pre-debut ballad single, ‘Blurry’ in August 2019. This was followed by their official debut in January 2020 with the EDM title track ‘My Angel’ and associated EP, ‘Phase One: You’.
Now faced with yet another disbandment, we don’t know what’s ahead in terms of their musical careers. Member Kim Kookheon is still under the contract of The Music Works, but has not posted on his social media since January, so it is unlikely (not impossible) that he would decide to resign.
No matter what happens, we hope for the best for the two members. How do you feel about the duo’s disbandment and what was your journey with them? Let us know in the comments below.
