One of the main headliners for the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMAs) was Big Bang. The senior five member group with YG Entertainment were up for many awards this year due to a comeback that spanned well over a few months, consecutively.
The MADE series was the most talked about moments of 2015; mostly because it had been three years since Big Bang had a comeback and it was split up into parts, dropping two singles a month starting in May. They followed this up with an epic international tour the world had never seen (I had the pleasure of catching the concert when they came to Las Vegas).
It is no surprise that the guys of Big Bang would put on one amazing show titled ‘Truth+Dare’ at the MAMAs. Starting with the illusion of floating lights on the front stage, SeungRi opens the show, rising from the floor, with the lyrics to ‘Loser’ off the ‘M’ portion of the “project singles”. Joining him on stage and ascending from beneath the stage as well, was G-Dragon, TaeYang, T.O.P, and DaeSung. All 5 men were decked out in beautiful clothes meant to reflect the lights around them.
Leaving TaeYang on the stage alone to finish the song, the four other member descend the same way they came. Moving onto the next song, the stage goes black, and then a burst of color comes from the main stage as G-Dragon starts ‘Bae Bae’, which was also from the ‘M’ single. The stage is very much reminiscent of the music video for this song including the signature statue and the energy peaks up as all the VIPs scream.
If there is one thing Big Bang knows how to do is to make an entrance, even in their own stage productions. T.O.P enters from the middle of the giant screen on stage and female dancers are added to increase the atmosphere.
I think the highlight of the whole MAMAs was the entrance of SeungRi’s part in ‘Bae Bae’. As the camera pans to him, he is seen sitting on SeHun’s lap from EXO. Some of reasons this part is so fantastic is that both members are the maknae of their respective groups, and for years there have been articles comparing the two groups and fan wars between VIPs and EXO-Ls. This moment could be that part that slowly bridges that gap and ends the feud. Also the reaction of the EXO members such as Lay, ChanYeol, and even SeHun himself, are pretty amusing.
ReQuest Dance Crew from Auckland, NZ and lead by Parris Goebel, lead the transition into ‘뱅뱅뱅 (Bang Bang Bang)’ off the ‘A’ single. ReQuest was previously seen with CL during her ‘The Baddest Female’ segment of the MAMAs and were also featured in her new warm-up single, ‘Hello Bi+ches’. These women were on fire as they brought the crowd to a new high of energy and Big Bang rises above them with increased momentum as well.
The final song feels like it is joined by everyone as the stage fills with more dancers, both male and female, performing to the iconic moves that got them the nomination for Best Dance Performance. Moving to the front stage, Big Bang still have surprises in store as the stop on the walkway between the two stage and it rises above the crowd blowing smoke and adding to the atmosphere. They finish the song up front and powerful, but it’s definitely one performance you must see. Check it out below.
I never get tired of seeing Big Bang perform. Was this one of your favorites? Let us know!
