As we reported earlier, BigBang has successfully finished their ‘ALIVE GALAXY WORLD TOUR’. They have visited 12 countries and 24 cities, met over 800,000 fans and earned over 80 billion won. It’s something that only Lady Gaga or Beyoncé could achieve.
Thanks to the tour, BigBang were the first in many aspects: for the very first time a Korean artist had brought out this many audiences and that reached America, South America and Europe. They had sold out all four concerts in Los Angeles and New Jersey and continued their successful, sold out concerts, in Lima, Peru, London and Seoul.
The fact that all concerts in America, South America and Europe were sold out is very amusing, because Korean artists had never reached out to those parts of the world. Wonder Girls went to America to hold a concert back in 2008, but they just performed in a small club.
For ‘ALIVE GALAXY WORLD TOUR’ BigBang collaborated with Live Nation, a group that is well-known for working on Lady Gaga’s concerts. Over 445 staff members were involved for every performance. On every show, the group sang live for over 2 hours and 30 minutes, which works out to about 7200 minutes if we summarize all 48 concerts.
Let’s talk about money. Estimating that each ticket for the concert was about 100,000 won, BigBang has earned around 80 billion won! Note that the revenue from merchandise is not even included.
If BigBang have managed to sell out all 60,000 seats in England and America, that means they have a plenty of fans that are willing to pay for the expensive tickets. The staff members confessed: “Having an audience of people in each show cannot be covered with invitations.”
This great tour couldn’t have gone unnoticed by media, that compared BigBang’s tour to those of other pop stars’. ‘New Yorker‘ stated ‘G-Dragon is like the Lady Gaga of Korea’, ‘New York Times’ named ‘ALIVE GALAXY WORLD TOUR’ one of the best concerts of 2012, England’s ‘The Guardian‘ rated the tour with 4 stars out of 5.
Han Dong Yoon, music critic, revealed: “It was rare for one idol group to sell out their tickets globally and continuously like Big Bang. Also, the fact that they could sing and dance live in all 48 tours proves their skills as an artist. This shows that Big Bang has the possibility to go beyond Korea and compete with other pop stars.”
