On 22nd of February, K-pop label Big Hit Entertainment stormed all charts with BTS‘s new comeback. However, things did not go that well. The official website caught into hands of hackers.
The hackers replaced the BTS’s ‘Not Today’, which was embedded under ‘notice’ tag of its site, with the JYP’s girl group TWICE‘s new single ‘KNOCK KNOCK’. Since both groups are competing against each other this time, first netizens suspected a fan of TWICE must have responsible for the incident. As a result, this case cause to a start of a fan war as well. Here is the behind the story of what really happened.
At that time, fans tried to access the site, but the site automatically displayed a message coming from the hackers, saying “Unknown was here.” Also, errors started to happen such as the page wouldn’t load properly, and taking a long time to load any of its pages. Meanwhile, those who were able to load the page noticed a message saying ‘IDCA WAS HERE’.
After checking website source codes, it was confirmed that name of the hacker is ‘IDCA’. This short term IDCA stands for ‘Indonesian Cyber Army’. After the hacker was reveled, the scandal started to continue. BTS fans official fandom name is ‘ARMY’, and the hacker’s name is ‘Indonesian Cyber Army’. Thus, it let to huge misunderstanding, and BTS fans from all around the world started to accused ‘Indonesian ARMY’.
It is crystal clear that, Indonesian Army has nothing to do this inappropriate activity. Even though BTS fans from Indonesia had to explain the situation to other fans. Even from the very beginning TWICE fans denied the hacking. After this, a huge amount of BTS fans also admitted that K-pop haters had done the hacking with the purpose of creating fan wars. However, other than replacing the video, the hacker did not cause any harm to Big Hit Entertainment; such as leaking internal information and data. This is a one in a million incident that occurred. Now, it is time for Big Hit to think about not only blacklisting, but also their internal data security and what they will do the strengthen it.
