It’s finally D-day and right on time, BLACKPINK dropped the music videos for their comeback singles, ‘Playing with Fire‘ and ‘Stay‘. After releasing various teaser images, as well as videos which you can find here, we finally get a look at their SQUARE TWO concept. Even though the instrumental for this single was heard over a vintage period teaser, the actual music video takes on an edgier and powerful concept, complete with pillars of fire in the background while they dance.
Watch the music video here:
‘Playing with Fire‘ has been described as part of the tropical house genre and has a mid-tempo beat. It’s strong, but not overwhelming. Starting off with a simple piano instrumental, it quickly switches into a less classic sound. Lisa’s “Burn, baby, burn” and Jennie’s “My love is on fire” are lines that catch on quickly.
In addition to the music video, the group also released a behind-the-scenes look at the making. We get to see the more real, and playful BLACKPINK as they tease Rose over her solo scene with her music video “boyfriend” and Lisa about her sped-up and chipmunk like rap. Additionally, you get to see how the more aesthetic fire shots were created. The pier and the large steel structure that reads “fate” being the main focus.
Watch the behind-the-scenes here:
The second track, ‘Stay‘, slows things down with it’s country feel and guitar-strummed instrumental. This music video places the girls in a post-apocalyptic world which is brightened by the appearance of bursts of colorful clouds. We also get to see a more carefree version of the girls in contrast to their look in ‘Playing with Fire‘. Two of my favorite scenes include Rose playing the guitar while she sings and the four columns of color shot into the sky. The latter was also featured on their last teaser image.
