On October 2nd, BLACKPINK returned with their new title track and MV for ‘Lovesick Girls’. The track comes off the group’s simultaneously released 1st full album, ‘The Album’. Check out the MV below!
BLACKPINK ‘LOVESICK GIRLS’ MV:
The song’s lyrics describe the confused and complicated emotions during love and heartbreak. The song’s tone is overall brighter (with a country guitar and retro feel) than the group’s typical releases but equally powerful especially with the quartet’s vocals during the chorus.
Watching the dramatic MV, we see all four members separate and deal with their love struggles in their own way. Jennie sits in her heavily graffiti-ed car, screaming and suffering before trying to visit a doctor to cure her of lovesick-ness. Lisa leans on her lover before smashing a car windscreen. Jisoo is surrounded by a field of blue flowers before running for her life and being drenched in rain. Finally Rosé recalls happier memories in her relationship such as painting pink interior walls and playing the guitar and singing together . But following a break up she is scarred by those and breaks the guitar. Lastly, we see her sitting in a bathtub filled with black paint..
The group eventually get together have fun in each other’s company. Driving to an open field, the MV ends while they walk around to whatever comes after. Throughout the video, we also see snippets of the choreography for the track. The chorus’ dance looks clean yet powerful, thus showing the group’s signature charisma.
‘The Album’ is the girl group’s 1st full album since their debut back in 2016. The highly anticipated album contains eight tracks. In addition to this title track, the previously released singles ‘How You Like That’ and ‘Ice Cream’ which featured American singer Selena Gomez are also included. The girls have also collaborated with American rapper Cardi B for the B-side track, ‘Bet You Wanna’ on the album. The album shows a wider range of genres that show the group’s musical ability. ‘Lovesick Girls’ was also the first track to be credits from the members themselves; Jisoo and Jennie contributed to its lyrics, with Jennie also participating inits production.
BLACKPINK‘s album, ‘The Album’ is available now.
