Preceding the January 21st drop of the digital single, Block B have released a Japanese version of “Very Good” that is almost identical to the Korean version. Even though several sections of the song can compete with YG Entertainment for worst lipsync dubbing in a music video, it doesn’t seem to matter because of the plot of the video. Instead of saying words, it simply looks like Block B are making ridiculous faces, and the directors also replace large sections of the closeups with Block B acting ridiculous in the same setting as the original.
In short, don’t watch this if you were expecting to see vastly new things in the MV, but if you can understand Japanese or if you like the way the language sounds be sure to check it out. This song, unlike many other Korean to Japanese translations, actually sounds very pleasing after being translated. Seven Seasons has also done the viewer a favor by adding the kanji for the song on the bottom of the screen, so if you can read Japanese (or even characters in Chinese) you may be able to understand what is being said. Unfortunately, my understanding of Japanese doesn’t quite reach the conversational level, so I can’t inform you on whether Block B retains the level of lyricism we’re used to in their Korean songs, however if I run across my friends who do have experience with the language, I’ll be sure to sit them down and give you their impressions of the song.
I just want to thank Seven Seasons for reminding me that this moment happened:
