BTS just set another record for themselves by being the first K-Pop group to win at the Billboard Music Awards!
Even though many thought they couldn’t top winning a Daesang (the most prestigious award) at the most recent MAMA Awards, the members continue to impress everyone. The group was nominated for the Top Social Artist category and competed with huge stars such as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez and Shawn Mendes. Thanks to the votes of ARMYs, BTS took their first win at the BBMAs and took over Bieber’s three-year winning streak in the category.
Throughout the day, the group’s debut at an American event brought them even more exposure. Many celebrities such as The Chainsmokers, Camila Cabello and Halsey took notice of the boys and posted interactions with them via their own social media. When they won, many others, including Miley Cyrus, stood up in awe and showed them respect.
In addition, leader Rap Monster proved his great leadership by responding to all of the interviewees in English and guiding the others through the whole process by translating and encouraging them to answer for themselves as well. He also gave a speech in which he thanked fans for the win and expressed their gratitude at being able to stand where other famous artists have stood.
One thing’s for sure: this is an enormous milestone for K-pop. Again, congratulations to BTS and their fans! Check out their winning moment and backstage interview below.
