“In the moment of my failure will someone hold my hand? In the moment when I come down from the stage will that person be next to me?” – Awakening by Rap Monster
‘Awakening’ is another masterpiece from one of the most talented lyricists in the game. Rap Monster dropped epic music video where he bared his soul in his rap lyrics.
Unlike his track P.D.D, where he had mellow beat, this one has powerful and a monster-like flow, proving where his stage name came from.
The lyrics, oh my god!
Maybe you remember the diss track from one of his underground “friends” B-Free on a radio show on BTS‘s one year anniversary, that diss was a huge deal among the fans as well as in the industry. At the time, he replied to B-Free using Drake‘s “Too Much” instead of penning his own response. Rap Monster is finally speaking for himself and what he has to say is powerful. His words hammer home the fact he choose his life as an idol and he is not sorry for that, and he does not owe anyone anything.
‘Awakening’ has the same meaning, he wants to tell everyone, yes this is me! If you don’t like me, turn your head away and don’t look at me! I have chosen this life because all I wanted to do is music. Being an idol is not shameful, you don’t have the right to judge me!
Please check out the music video if you haven’t already, or, if you’re like the staff here, again for the 10th time.
Coming from the underground rap scene, it was so hard for him to maintain his image when he debuted in BTS because he was called a traitor and a lousy rapper. Some of his friends talked down to him, like B-Free, a very few stood behind him and supported him.
In this music video he sounds angry, frustrated and at the same time so sad. The scenes are so powerful that I had to calm down several times before I got to the end of the video because his expressions were so intense. The covering and uncovering his face with gauze is really amazing!
Here, we bring you the translation of the rap (note: it is not full translation)
“I lost too many friends you know that I did lost too many clans being a singer, I lost too many bands I couldn’t help but spit and spit, keepin’ repeating too many damns. Gotta let my eyes watch too many ends outside was a whole battlefield!
So I bring out the chopper every night inside me I quietly fight with myself my heart pounds, my colleagues stab me in the back while saying that I became a moron after joining a company!
Yeah f*ck you I’m an idol, yeah yeah I’m an idol! At one time I hated it but now I love to get that title when I come out on broadcast it’s all over.
I’m different from those who are corrupted now. I’m completely acknowledged now and I just do me, whether I’m an idol or an artist, to be honest it’s not important your attention when you look at me, that was all just me stuck to the title and hung from a modifier listen well!
Time is passing, the rap of a bastard who’s gotten a little smarter it isn’t these words, wordplay, it’s just a warplay the world plays again we fight just like soldiers, everyday, yeah I walk properly when I risk my life on top of the beat, the today when I’m singing this song is my second birthday!
My buddies the way you taught me, the confidence you got me was more than ‘Rarri, Lambo, Mercy, Maserati you got me? Now just come give me an XO, go bring your next soul an endless cynical smile but I’m Rimbaud, your time sent from hell BOOM!”
Every word has it’s meaning and it is important, so please read it well.
I am not going to write about the importance of these words, you may judge it for yourself.
