Korean indie band Busker Busker announced this past summer that they were going on hiatus, which has led to much worry and speculation as to why.
Busker Busker first gained major fame by finishing second on the 3rd season of the Korean audition show “Superstar K.” They followed up their strong performance on Superstar K by releasing their first album: Busker Busker 1st Album which sold over 50,000 albums in its first three weeks, a major accomplishment for a rookie group. Every song on the album and the album itself placed high on practically every major Korean music chart.
On June 21, Busker Busker release their 1st Wrap Up Album which contained five songs not on their first album. All the songs on the album were written and composed by vocalist and guitarist Jang Beom Jun. And once again every song on the album dominated the music charts, with every track placing in the top 5.
So why would a group that is enjoying such success, go on a hiatus? Some have speculation that their is possible discord in the group, but on November 8th, their former agency J E&M stated:“[There’s no trouble among the members]. It’s just that they’re currently taking a hiatus from promotions.”
Hopefully everything is well with Busker Busker and they will make a strong comeback soon!
