For 25 years, The Independent Critics have released a list of the 100 most beautiful faces around the world. Starting in 1990, there have been over 60 million faces submitted and voted on. This isn’t a normal publication since it is completely based on public vote only and does not reflect the opinions of those who publish the list.
Just a couple years back, TC Chandler also started creating ‘The Most Handsome Faces‘ list, which we covered this year and saw some of our favorite men in the Korean entertainment industry get recognized. For the women’s portion, 2014 showed the world Hara of KARA, IU, JooYeon formerly of After School, YoonA, SooYoung, and TaeYeon of SNSD, Jun JiHyun as Gianna Jun, Woori of Rainbow, Minah of Girl’s Day, Jessica Jung, Song HyeKyo, Go Ara, Suzy of Miss A, and Nana of After School. This year brought a lot of new faces overall throughout the list, along with some returning beauties.
Song JiEun hails from the girl group, Secret. Not only does she have an extensive career as a member of TS Entertainment’s girl group, but also as a soloist, and actress. Her most recent project was starring in ‘Sweet Home, Sweet Honey’ as Oh Bom.
One of the new entries this year would be SM Entertainment’s Red Velvet rookie, Kang SeulGi. She was one of the four girls to debut back in 2014 with the group and has also gained recognition in the musical theatre scene when she starred as Dorothy in School Of Oz.
This is Song Hye-Kyo’s sixth year on the list. If you look at her career, you can see that not only is she beautiful, she has one amazing resume. She started acting in 1996 and 20 years later, still as active as ever. Her newest show will be ‘Descendents Of The Sun’ with SHINee’s Onew and Song Joong Ki.
Formerly of SNSD (Girls’ Generation), Jessica Jung actually hails from America but is of Korean descent. Now on the list for her fifth year, Jessica has gone from idol group member to success fashion designer with Blanc & Eclare and possibly returning to the musical world with a possible solo album.
Kim JinHee, known as Jei of Fiestar, is one fifth of LEON Entertainment’s girl group. Though her group has a decent discography for only having debuted in 2012, Jei is making waves as an actress starring in two dramas in 2015 and already has another one in the works in 2016. She is most recently crossing headlines for her role in ‘Lily Fever’ where she is tackling female homosexuality.
Miss A’s Suzy has had an interesting year and she is a returning entry for the third year. In 2015, Miss A had a comeback with a new EP, ‘Colors’, and Suzy starred in a new movie called ‘The Sound Of A Flower’. Her relationship with Lee MinHo came to light, which funny enough he is on ‘The Most Handsome Faces of 2015’ list and she is gearing to star opposite Kim WooBin, who has worked with Lee MinHo often, in 2016.
Last year brought you Minah, and this year brings you Hyeri of Girl’s Day. This has been an active year for her since, not only did her group release new music, but she also put herself out there into the acting world. This year alone, she has been in three dramas and doesn’t show any signs of stopping.
For her fifth year, Go Ara has made the list. Being one of the many actresses under SM Entertainment, she has created an amazing resume for herself. From films, dramas, and especially endorsements, Go Ara is one of the many beautiful faces of Korea.
Girl’s Generation leader, TaeYeon, has graced the list for her fourth year. Not surprising since 2015 has really been a breakout year for her group with three comebacks and a tour. Also Kim TaeYeon had released her first ever solo album along with her own solo concert as part of ‘The Agit’ concert series.
Making her first appearance on the list is Girl’s Day member, Yura. Though Girl’s Day had a slew of new releases, Yura has been making a name for herself on the variety show circuit guest appearing on such shows as ‘I Live Alone’, ‘Off To School’ and ‘Running Man’.
Though she is Taiwanese, Tzuyu debuted this year not only on the list for the first time, but also in JYP Entertainment’s newest rookie girl group, Twice. Coming from the survival show ‘Sixteen’, Tzuyu is the youngest member of her group and also the youngest one of this year’s list as well.
For the second year in a row, After School’s Nana leads the list at number one. Known for her charisma, style, and vocals, Nana is taking over the entertainment world. On top of all her work as an idol, Im JinAh also attends Seoul Institute of the Arts.
This was a fantastic list overall and it was good to see a lot of new faces emerging into the world and getting their recognition. Did some of your favorites make it on the list? I was quite content on who I saw. Who would you have chosen? Let us know!
