On January 6, CJ E&M Music and Live’s (formerly known as Mediopa Technology Corp., GM Agency Co. Ltd., CJ Music Inc. and Mnet Media Corp.) made an announcement, stating that they have acquired the trendiest hip-hop label AOMG (Above Ordinary Music Group).
Back in 2014, CJ E&M also launched a joint venture with Japan’s Victor Entertainment, called CJ Victor Entertainment. Now, as proclaimed by the company’s division head, Ahn Suk-Joon saying, “We will support AOMG, which began with hip-hop and R&B music, grow to become the most trendy label pioneering a lifestyle in Korea and abroad in the long run, with our business infrastructure and know-how. We will lead the expansion and development of the music market by discovering various business opportunities”
AOMG, on the other hand, was known as an independent South Korean record label handled by Jay Park and Simon Dominic, founded in 2013.
In related news, Jay Park and Simon Dominic’s positions as CEOs remain unchanged, and AOMG will keep its independence in operations and music production while using the distribution and marketing networks provided by CJ E&M.
