When 2NE1‘s leader CL released her solo debut track, “The Baddest Female,” many commented that her style resembles BIGBANG‘s G-Dragon‘s. CL responded to that comparisons during an interview for Star News.
When the reported asked CL what does she think of comparing her to G-Dragon, the female rapper answered, “I am very grateful. If I get a chance to continue my solo career, I want to find my colors more clearly. To be honest, a lot of people see me as 2NE1′s CL, but I would like people to know that CL has a color of her own as well. As a female rapper, I want to become somebody who does not have any limits.”
CL has also shared her thoughts about her first solo single, “I’ve always wanted to try the route as a solo artist, but I really wanted to come out with something that I liked. I was really happy when our President Yang Hyun Suk told me to have a go with this song. However, everything was decided so rapidly that I don’t even think I had a month to prepare.”
In the interview she has also explained that her main principle is to break the distinct image of Asian women foreigner have in their heads. She stated, “All throughout my life, I attended foreign schools. Through those years, I have learned that foreigners have a very distinct image of Asian women in their minds. Feminine, quiet, and etc.. There are times when those qualities are good, but I wanted to show them something else. I wanted to break their idea about Asian women.”
