After dropping individual audio teasers and an emergency press release 2NE1 has released the music video for their latest single “Missing You“.
The song is definitely a good one for the Fall and upcoming Winter. It is a song about a woman missing the guy who left her but hating him at the same time. The lyrics are especially poignant, “I don’t want a love that’s like a kid playing with fire” and “I don’t want a complicated love like the adults” are both examples of how the relationship was probably a complicated one.
The video is especially lovely. The girls are all dressed as if they could of walked off a Paris high fashion runway. All very 2NE1 in it’s styling. The video is full of wonderful imagery, roman numerals for 21, sheets on the furniture, falling snow and the wind blowing over everything.
But perhaps the loveliest scene in the video is when leader, CL, sat on a concrete pillar in a crumbling set with the words, “If our love ceases to be that is the end of my world for me.” on the wall behind her. She is completely in the nude but it was very tastefully done. The quote on the wall is actually from an Italian song written in 1963 called “Il Mio Mondo“. The song was translated into English and has been covered by numerous singers.
CL’s nudity has set the Kpop fandom into a whirlwind. With fans being torn over the appropriateness of it. The way CL choose to do the scene was not done to be sexually explicit but rather to be artistic. If we look back at other strong female singers, Alanis Morissette in “Thank You“, Katty Perry‘s “California Girls” and Rhianna‘s “Stay” all choose to go nude in their videos but did so in a tasteful (no pun intended in Katy Perry’s case) manner.
