During the May 4th performance of Snoop Dogg‘s concert, 2NE1 leader CL had a wardrobe malfunction.
The American rapper had asked the ladies to perform with him for his first concert in Korea, Unite All Originals Live with Snoop Dogg.
During, “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” the ladies burst onto stage in colorful tracksuits.
All the members were very animated during the performance. CL’s costume, however, came up numerous times, revealing her bra in it’s entirety.
While many fans were understanding, attributing the mishap to CL’s energetic performance style, the Korean media has labeled it, “provocative.” Though she didn’t seem to intentionally cause the wardrobe malfunction, the action incited an enormous response online.
A comment on a Newsen article said, “People are way too harsh on CL. She’s just performing hard, singing hard, living up to her title as a singer.”
But others began to argue against it, comparing her to fellow K-Pop artist, HyunA.
“HyunA would have been ripped to shreds with hate if she had done this,”
Other fans and netizens alike began to wonder the same thing, and caused a heated discussion.
“The difference is that CL isn’t trying to show sex appeal while HyunA is obviously trying to look as erotic as possible,”
“You want to know why people think CL exposing herself like this is cool, but HyunA is called cheap? Because HyunA is a singer who knows how to do nothing but erotic dances with hooded eyes. If HyunA had been a great singer, no one would care if she pulled stunts like this. They’d just see it as one aspect of a performance.” says another netizen.
4Minute‘s visual has been getting a lot of heat for her sexy image in music videos, as well as onstage. But, does that mean it’s fair to argue HyunA’s name against other female idols when they do anything remotely provocative?
