CNBlue recently made their Korean comeback after a year long absence during which they had made the rounds promoting their latest Japanese album.
Returning with their 5th mini album, “Can’t Stop“, the boys adopted a sweet rock pop combination sound with the 6 tracks on the album. They have not long returned to Korea, it was only the end of January that the boys played a pair of U.S. shows. The two concerts, one in Pasadena, CA and the other in New York, NY were CNBlue’s first solo shows in the States. They had previously performed at a joint concert with label mates FT Island in Los Angeles, CA as well as being one of the artists for the SBS Kpop Super Concert in Irvine, California, both of which took place in 2012. As well the boys will be returning to America this April for the Open Concert L.A. K-Pop Festival.
You can check out the coverage of their solo concerts and some BTS footage below that was filmed by Mnet America.
During an interview with Billboard, at the time of their concerts, CNBlue told the famous music magazine, “One day we’ll have our own color and our own sound and people will say, ‘Oh, that sounds like CNBlue“. Now making a 180 degree turn from the sound of their last album “I’m Sorry“, which earned the quartet their highest spot on the chart to date with the No. 2 position, Billboard feels that “Can’t Stop” will still climb the chart and land in the upper rankings once again. Billboard paid the boys a lovely compliment, implying that the boys wish is closer at hand than they think, and most K-Pop fans of the group would be very quick to agree with the statement, “Whether singing about heartbreak or love, CNBlue’s sweet, uplifting take on pop-rock is certainly on its way to becoming instantly recognizable across hemispheres“.
Describing the title track off the album, “Can’t Stop”, Billboard first comments on the opening piano solo by leader Yonghwa, saying it “automatically sets a romantic mood despite somber lyrics about losing a lover“. Continuing on Billboard comments on the change from the soft piano intro to the build up of the chorus, “ Once the chorus hits, the vocals, instrumentation and overall energy of the track jump as if the band can’t bear to keep their feelings subdued any longer“. Concluding the description with a description of the bridge “the guitar licks get harder along with strings are added to the mix leading to a chorus where each member rocks out with his respective instrument” Billboard describes all the important points of the song to perfection.
One of the things we K-Pop fans love the most about our K-Pop groups are their music videos. It’s not easy to come up with original ideas and make interesting music videos. It’s definitely not any easier for our K-Pop band groups to pull off interesting and unique music video concepts. CNBlue manage to keep it interesting and entertaining with the music video for “Can’t Stop” and according to Billboard they still follow the “sonic theme” of the song.
The video goes from gloomy set to romantic lovey-dovey scenes of Yonghwa trying to connect with his love interest matching the song perfectly. Even the point in the song when it builds and everyone jumps in the air, including the piano and drum set, make a fantastical image that just “jumps” right out at you (pun intended).

The six song’s on “Can’t Stop” covered a wide range and show off the boys talents to perfection. The songs, as described by Billboard, could not be done any better. You have “the fiesty rock jam “Diamond Girl,” gritty, rock ballad “Cold Love” and gorgeous piano/string composition “Love Is“”. Billboard also felt that not only was “Can’t Stop” a “standout” but that “Like a Child” was “equally accessible and boasts an uplifting melody recalling Coldplay“. I’m sure the comparison to Coldplay was music to CNBlue’s ears.
Make sure you listen to the highlight medley of the album below and try and get a listen to the whole songs as soon as possible.
The boys of CNBlue made use of their time in the States to also take the photos for the jacket for the “Can’t Stop” album. Watching the boys stare charismatically into the camera even in what was sure freezing cold weather, is a treat for fans everywhere. The boys were very stylishly dressed and made the surely grueling photo shot seem easy.
Check out the behind the scenes footage below.
As well as the jacket photo shoot video CNBlue also uploaded a video for the making of the music video for “Can’t Stop” onto their official YouTube channel. The video first features the boys having some fun in the waiting room while they get ready for the filming. When the camera is rolling the boys show off their professionalism and film the video with loads of magnetism but when the cameras go off the true side to CNBlue shows it self. Watching Minhyuk try and swat the feathers with his drumsticks or Yonghwa act the fool with the fake mirror or even Jonhyun trying to play the drums and we can’t forget Jungshin‘s smile all only enforces why fans love these boys so much.

CNBlue have been around for over 4 years and actually will be celebrating their 5th anniversary in August! The boys have released over 15 singles in both Korean and Japanese, participated in OST’s, have over 18 official music videos to their name, have had almost 10 solo concerts and made appearances in more concerts that I care to count. The boys continue to grow and show sides of them selves through their music that fans can not help but fall in love with. Make sure you continue to give CNBlue lots of love and support their current album “Can’t Stop”, maybe we can even get them 1st on the Billboard charts this time around!
