What’s sad about the music industry is when the time comes to say good-bye, these good-byes can take as long as 7 years. In recent news, it has been revealed that the popular and successful co-ed group 8Eight will be going their separate ways.
In a recent statement released by Big Hit Entertainment, it is a mutual decision and nothing that is scandal worthy, just your typical, every day contract expiration. The group consist of Baek Chan, Joo Hee, and Lee Hyun. Out of the trio, Classicalite revealed that two of the members rapper Baek Chan and female vocalist Joo Hee have made the mutual decision not to renew their contracts. Their contracts expired on December 21st 2014. As for Lee Hyun, his contract expiration date is extended due to mandatory enlistment. His career under the company as both a solo artist and as part of the duo Homme with 2AM‘s Changmin has been extended though when the time comes he too will leave the agency and look for a new company.
In the midst of all this Big Hit Entertainment has revealed that although these aren’t the happiest news that the trio will be separating but gives hopes to fans to look towards the future of the three. “We no longer have anymore promotions planned for 8Eight. Because their contracts have expired,” explained a representative of Big Hit entertainment. “[8Eight’s] Activities have been suspended for now. The three members’ friendship will still continue, so if the opportunity arises, they will reunite.”
Co-ed groups are the unicorns in K-pop but are indeed treasures, during the their 7-year run the group managed to become one of the top vocal groups in Korea and to dominate the coffee house scene. Their last but hopefully not last song was released on September 9th “Let’s Not Go Crazy,” the group does join the list of K-groups disbandments of 2014 but that doesn’t mean they’ll be gone forever according to Big Hit Entertainment.
