As we’ve known for some time, TVXQ’s Yunho is set to enlist this year, and for quite a while, there was a lot of speculation as to when he would actually go in. Wonder no further, my friends, as SM Entertainment has revealed that he is set to enlist on July 21st.
When news first broke on June 8th, several sources were stating that he was enlisting on July 6th. That didn’t quite add up to me, because I know he has an engagement on the 8th to perform in a musical at Gwangju Summer University. Shortly afterward, SM made an official statement refuting that rumor, and later clarifying that the date is in fact the 21st.
Many are likely surprised, as the initial rumors were for sometime in August. As former band-mate Yoochun is going in on August 27th, it would have seemed likely for Yunho to enlist around the same time. Regardless of the how’s or why’s, it is nice to at least finally have a date. Now we can begin the countdown properly, and prepare to support him while he’s gone.
Yunho has expressed wishes to enlist quietly, so the time and location will not be announced. He is to serve 21 months active duty, after a 5 week basic training period. We here at Officially KMusic wish him all the best, and pray that he does well and returns safely in the spring of 2017. In the meantime, be sure to look out for his new web drama, “I Order You,” which is set to air soon.
