K-Pop limbo. When your band has not broken up but is not active anymore. Think of limbo as an in between place, a place where many of our favorite bands have been hiding away.
When you actually sit down and think about it you discover that there are so many good bands that are in holding pattern. So here is a list of some of these best limbo bands in Korean music. But when I made my final list it was ridiculously long so will break them up into groups so you can enjoy them some more.
Kiss&Cry “Domino Game”
There are so many conflicting reports revolving around this group so I am going to call them in limbo for now. “Domino Game” was the group’s debut track. I am honestly surprised when it did not do better. But there are many female groups in K-Pop that smoother these younger groups. The song is great it upbeat and gets stuck in your head. The music video was just right, it was not as over sexed as many of the groups we have seen this year.
DMTN “Safety Zone”
Originally named Dalmatian the group changed their name to DMTN for their 2013 promotions. This group has had all kinds of trouble from line up changes to legal troubles. Music wise this is a solid song that if these guys keep doing music like this then they should do better in all markets. This I think is may favorite song by the group, it shows they can actually sing and keep their shirts on. I nor most of my friends don’t mind them taking their shirts off I mean who are we to stifle the creative process.
F(x) “LA chA TA”
Talk to most well informed Korean music fans about groups that get over looked, down played, and stay in limbo eventually this groups name will come up. But F(x) and their fans never gave up. F(x) is another group that had a large international following and in turn received lot of love and interest from their fan base.
In 2013 F(x) became the first group to perform at SXSW a festival held in Austin , Texas. In fact FUSE magazine named the groups as a “Must see.” Later with the release of their album “Pink Tape”
FUSE named it as the only Korean album to appear on their “The 41 Best Albums of 2014” list. Member Sulli earlier this year stated that she was going to go on hiatus due to stress, illness, and internet trolls. “LA chA TA” is the groups debut song musically the song is awesome, there are some parts of the music video I would change. But hey its great to see that set again.
SS501 “Love Ya”
Even their leader Kim Hyun Joong is confused by the state of this group, he admitted the group was still together but was unsure when if they would ever preform as a group again. But they did reunite as a good bye, as member Heo Young Saeng left for his mandatory military service. But lets look at the facts the rest of the group still has their military service to complete, they all belong to different management companies, and there the pending legal actions against one of the members. “Love Ya” is another good song it is regularly stuck in my head even if I have not heard it for a while.
Jewelry “Look At Me”
They debuted around 2001, making them the longest running girl group, so line up changes are to be expected. But this group’s has never had the same line up for a promotion. Despite their longevity as a group they have only been moderately successful in terms of sales. With such a large musical catalog to pick from it was hard to pick a song to share so I made a list of my favorites and picked one.
The Boss “Why Goodbye”
There had been whispers across the fandom internet that these guys will be making a comeback sometime this year, but until that time , Sorry guys you’re still in limbo. The song is really good and is everything you want from a boy band ballad. The music video on the other hand is horrible and I wish I could redo all of it. This is another group that fell victim to timing and legal troubles. But not one of the members, but the CEO of their company was arrested in April of 2012.
RANIA “Just Go”
This is another group that should have in theory done pretty well in the music market, but fell victim to mismanagement by their company. Rania worked with some big producer in the music industry, but again business issues and line up changes have been the norm for these ladies. Their debut song and performance was the source of so much controversy regarding their choreography and costumes that the group wished they could have debuted differently. So hopefully the group can come back with a new sound and image.
24K “Secret Love”
Who doesn’t like a cute boy band, well if your in the market then be sure to check out these guys. The music video is bright, cheery and fulfilled the wishes of so many fan girls. I like the music videos concept, its simple and there is nothing wrong with that. It full of individual shots, fan meetings, and bike rides. This is totally a video made for the fans.
Every band on this list deserves a listen so be sure to check them out. With only 8 groups on the list some groups did not make it this time . But fret not, there is more where this came from.
