Following a court injunction releasing MADTOWN from the terms of their contract with GNI Entertainment, lead rapper Buffy has decided to leave the group.
Buffy posted a long, handwritten letter to his personal Instagram account to break the news to fans, which you can take a look at below.

His letter reads:
Hello, this is Buffy.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to greet you.
I have something to tell you all. On November 20, 2017, I will be enlisting in the Republic of Korea Marine Corps.
Some of you may be surprised by this sudden news, but I’ve been worrying about my future for a long time, and following many long conversations with the other members I have decided to leave the team and voluntarily enlist.
I sincerely thank you for believing in, supporting, and loving me as MADTOWN‘s Buffy from our debut in 2014 until now. Our time promoting together, which might seem either long or short to you, will be a great source of strength to me in the future.
I am first and foremost a citizen of the Republic of Korea before I am a singer, so I will faithfully fulfill my military duty and return as a more mature Kim Joohyun.
Once again, I am sincerely grateful to our fans, and I am sorry for bringing you this news. I promise that I will repay the huge amount of love I have received from fans with good music when I return.
To the members I have been with since childhood, I will support your future paths more than anyone.
Thank you for loving MADTOWN‘s Buffy.
-Sincerely, Kim Joohyun-
We at Officially Kmusic wish Buffy all the best as he starts on his new path with his birth name Kim Joohyun.
