May contain spoilers of Shopping King Louis episode 1:
Louie (Seo In Guk) is introduced to viewers as he buys an expensive jacket he is proclaimed as the shopping king by economics master Cha Joong Won (Yoon Sang Hyun). Louie is a spoiled rich grandma’s boy which for viewers is upsetting until learning about his childhood. His parents died when he was young and he was in service of caretaker Kim Ho Joon (Eom Hyo Seop) which made him disliked at school. Later on it is revealed that his grandmother doesn’t allow him to go outside because of a supposed curse on her family that everyone she is close to dies. Reason being why she is in Korea and he in France.
Through Louie, leading girl Ko Bok Sil (Nam Ji Hyun) is introduced. Bok Sil lives with her grandmother and lives off the land rather than with technology. Bok Sil finds a precious ginseng that is worth a lot but refuses to sell it because she wants to give it to her grandmother. Upon coming home her grandmother has died and she is left alone. Bok Sil travels to Seoul to meet her brother but is robbed while on the train. Alone in Seoul with just the ginseng she finds Joong Won at the station, she sells him the ginseng in exchange for his name, number, and $100.
Meanwhile Louie’s grandmother (Kim Young Ok) falls ill and Louie is sent to on a plane to Seoul by himself.
In Seoul, Bok Sil is passing out flyers to look for her younger brother when a crowd gathers around a homeless man in a fancy jacket. Believing it to be Bok Nam (Ryoo Ui Hyun), her brother, she runs up to him. It is no other than Louie himself.

I am not normally one for cutesy jokey dramas but this one is actually really good. Seo In Guk is absolutely amazing between him speaking several different languages and nailing them and his expression, he is truly something else. The story is a little weird to say the least, but it’s actually not lacking. I really enjoy the female lead, she’s tough and she doesn’t take crap from people. The dynamic and chemistry between the characters is what really makes the show brilliant.
Overall a very good drama about a 7/10, while it’s not the best there is out there it certainly deserves attention and I look forward to the next episode!
