On June 29th, rookie boy group DRIPPIN returned with their 1st single album, ‘Free Pass’ featuring the title track of the same name and its associated MV.
Following their 2 previous mini albums (‘Boyager’, ‘A Better Tomorrow’), this comeback comes only 3 months after their last release. The boys are definitely busy to treat fans, now with their 3rd release within 12 months.
Lyrically, the song describes the wish for the boys to do whatever they want for their crush. Whether that be to give a shoulder to lean on during tough times, or share the brighter moments of life, they are willing to give a free pass to their lover. The bright breezy instrumental marks a departure from the group’s usually slightly deeper, whilst still pop tracks such as their 2020 debut with ‘Nostalgia’. Giving us the summer vibes, the youthful tones of the members, and a gentle rap section produces a pleasant overall sound ideal for young love. The harmonised vocals in the post-chorus add a nice catchiness to the song.

DRIPPIN ‘FREE PASS’ MV:
Watching the MV, we see the members walking around a park. Leaving their physical free passes around the fairytale-like area such as tying them to a tied bunch of helium balloons, and placing it in an origami folded boat, the sweetness of the video beams through. Later on, we see the Woolim Entertainment group sing and hangout together in front of their caravans. Sitting around a bonfire, the campy feels conclude the track beautifully as the members fall asleep.
Cut between the shots, there are snippets of the choreography. The routine overall compliments the song well. With fast arm and leg movements in the chorus to match every beat, the energy from the dance comes through. Combined with the cute interactions between members and formations integrated into the performance, the stages for the track are sure to be enjoyably active.
DRIPPIN‘s 1st single album, ‘Free Pass’, featuring the identically named title track is available now!
