After speculations earlier this month of the possible disbandment of one of the older girl groups, DSP Media has confirmed that three members of KARA have decided to not renew their contracts and thus will be disbanding the group.
Goo Hara, Han SeungYeon, and Park GyuRi were already spotted visiting other agencies prior to this announcement, as Key East had confirmed that Hara had considered them after her contract expired. At this time, which agencies the three former members will be going to has not been made public.
Through a press release by DSP Media, their contract has expired on January 15, and only Heo YoungJi will be staying with the company since she still has time on her contract. She had competed to be a member of KARA through the ‘Kara Project’ in 2014. The company has stated they will be assisting YoungJi in a solo career and help build her future in the industry.
KARA just completed their 4th Japanese tour this autumn, and before that had released their seventh mini album, ‘In Love’, with the title track ‘Cupid’. KARA just celebrated their 8th anniversary in March of last year and was just two months shy of their 9th year since debut.
DSP thanked Kamilias for standing by the group and to continue supporting them as they all branch onto new projects in the future.
Its sad to see one of the older girl groups disband, but I look forward to see what the four of them do in the future and will continue to support them. How do you feel about the news? We want to hear your opinions.
