Rookie boy group ENHYPEN are ready to make their first comeback! On April 5th, the Belift Lab band released a mysterious teaser titled, ‘Border Carnival Intro : The Invitation’. Assumingly, this will be the second installment of mini albums under the ‘Border’ series following their debut EP, ‘Border: Day One’. Check out the teaser down below!
Opening a wax sealed letter, the teaser reveals a boy walking the solitary path towards a dark looming castle. Animated in a vintage film-like manner, children sing ‘LALA’ as the repeated two-letter sound is displayed eerily in crimson font on screen. Zooming into the castle, we quickly see a shot of seven masquerade masks, representing members of the group as their eyes shine blood red. However, the teaser takes a psychedelic turn when the castle’s interior turns into a space of various colors and patterns. The walking boy, now paralleled by orange flames, spins into the pitfalls of the trippy surroundings. A synth beat with the septet’s vocals cooes that they feel like they are in paradise.
With a red moon based on a set of spinning metal spoons and pitchforks, not much makes sense in this world. As neon blue horses gallop, the Australian born member Jake narrates their story in this ‘flipped world brought here by fate’, stating they would ‘gladly swallow their time like it’s their last breath’. Madness continues, before we’re led back out the way we came, through tall glowing corridors, panning out to close the letter. With the mask centre in frame, the narrator makes one last comment.
‘A dizzying flicker, a light that blinds and deceives, and from the great beyond, that voice rings out again. Here, come inside the castle, take everything.’
Formed from the idol survival show ‘I-Land’, the seven members hail from Korea, Japan, America and Australia. Managed jointly by CJ E&M and HYBE (formerly Big Hit Entertainment handling groups such as BTS and TXT) creating the sub-label Belift Lab, their debut had plenty of hype around it. Debuting in November last year, their aforementioned mini album, ‘Border: Day One’ sold over 400,000 copies, becoming one of the best selling rookies coming into 2021. Although there is some pressure, we can all expect a beautiful quality music video, teasers and album to be coming our way very soon. More recently, the members made a YouTube variety show with labelmates TXT called ‘TXT & EN- PLAYGROUND’, showing bonding to their seniors.
ENHYPEN’s 2nd mini album, ‘Border: Carnival’ will be released on April 26th! How do you feel about the rookie’s upcoming first comeback? Let us know in the comments below!
