The siblings duo AKMU became very famous after they won the survival show ‘K-Pop Star 2′ and signed with YG Entertainment. Aside from the contract, one of the prizes was a money prize of 300 million won (about US$290.000) and the duo suprised everyone by donating all the money once they received it.
Many of us have been wondering their reasons for doing so ever since they revealed their decision. Finally, on the latest episode of ‘Healing Camp,’ the siblings revealed their thoughts on this matter.
During the episode, Lee Chan Hyuk revealed, “We always thought from the beginning that we should donate the prize money if we win. It was out of our own will. I didn’t think we could handle the money, when we’ve been eating rice with just soy sauce,” meaning that they come from a simple family. His sister, Lee Soo Hyun, also shared, “The things that we wanted to get were maybe a pair of new shoes. But once we received them from our fans, there was nothing else that we wanted to buy. So we just donated the money.“
AKMU are known for having a modest life before they became idols, and even their CEO Yang Hyun Sook already referred to them as “pure” kids, but it is touching to read these statements from them even after they have joined the music industry.
Let’s hope AKMU will keep their pure hearts and will put them into their awesome songs!
