FTISLAND have made their Korean comeback with the release of their sixth mini-album ‘What If’ and the title track ‘Summer Night’s Dream‘.
The release of ‘What If‘ marks the group’s first comeback since the release of ‘Over 10 Years‘ last year and the beautiful title track ‘Wind‘.
‘Summer Night’s Dream‘ branches out from the tried and true rock core of FTISLAND, but is still a worthy addition to their discography, with the feel good vibes overflowing through the song and the accompanying music video.
The melody will have you hooked from the very beginning, with the verses bouncing off the edges of their usual rock style, managing to encompass layering synths with a relaxed reggae beat. The chorus snaps us back to FTISLAND‘s usual sound with grinding guitars pushing the melody.
Lee Hongki is, as always, a standout with his vocal performance understated and somewhat restrained and then exploding before returning to the relaxed feel of the track. It is a vocal performance that proves (as if we needed proof) what an amazing singer he is. Members Jaejin and Seunghyun share in the vocals for this song and three play off each other allowing for a diversity of tone and feel which makes the song all the more listenable.
The music video is a visual feast, with plenty of colour and movement as well as a performance component. It starts out with Hongki handing out flyers dressed in a bunny suit, when he is joined by a woman also dressed in an animal suit also handing out flyers. From there, the story of the song unfolds, it’s a song about missing a woman after falling in love at first sight and wanting to see her again.

And, just because I can, here is the cutest moment of the entire music video for ‘Summer Night’s Dream‘ – Lee Hongki dressed as a bunny. I don’t want to start a fan war, but in my opinion, he could just rival BTS‘ JK for cutest bunny boy!
FTISLAND’s Lee Hongki as a cute bunny!
