Calling all Sone and VIP fans! It’s time to get excited because Girls Generation and Big Bang have nabbed a huge honor. They were chosen as the top Korean groups in history to represent their country. The survey was to seek the most influential male and female groups in South Korean history, which ranged from the early 90’s scene to now. It was assessed by a panel of 30 Korean music industry experts including music critics and producers. The results were then revealed through Korean online community Instiz.
Big Bang grabbed the top spot in the male group category with 25 votes from the 30 member panel. Other big names included TVXQ and H.O.T. who landed second place after they received 13 votes. Third place was given to SHINee, EXO, and Shinwa, while Super Junior and Sechs Kies tied in seventh place.
For the female group category, Girls’ Generation won with 21 votes. Wonder Girls and 2NE1 got second place with each group getting 11 votes from the panel. The 90’s pop sensation S.E.S. took fourth, followed by BoA and f(x) who both tied in 5th.
It’s no surprise that YG and SM groups, two of the biggest entertainment companies, were voted at the top. Each member from Girls’ Generation has been spreading their talents throughout the industry not just in singing, but in acting and musical theater, too. Big Bang has also solidified their success with member T.O.P’s huge success in the film industry and G-Dragon becoming a fashion icon.
