Three members of legendary girl group Girls’ Generation have elected not to re-sign with SM Entertainment
According to an official from SM Entertainment after a day of long discussions with the members of Girls’ Generation, Sooyoung, Seohyun and Tiffany chose not to extend their contracts with the agency.
The news will come as a surprise to many fans of the group, with SNSD celebrating their 10th anniversary as a group with the album ‘Holiday Night‘ earlier this year.
According to Korean news outlet Ilgan Sports, Tiffany plans to study abroad whilst Sooyoung and Seohyun will focus on their acting careers.
Girls’ Generation released ‘Holiday Night’ in August 2017
SM Entertainment said that both the company “and the members are not thinking about disbanding the group at all”, but that “future Girls’ Generation activities will need to be carefully discussed with all the members” because organisation across different agencies could become difficult.
With three members leaving, five Girls’ Generation members (Taeyeon, Yoona, Yuri, Sunny and Hyoyeon) are still under contract with SM Entertainment. Girls’ Generation remains one of the most accomplished K-pop groups of all time, having debuted back in 2007 with ‘Into the New World‘ and setting numerous records over the last decade.
