Despite being a rookie group, GOT7 is a force to be reckoned with.Visiting Singapore for the second time this year, the 7-member hip-hop group got the energy level in the house bursting at the seams during their leg of the SGKstar2015 fan meetings and capped off the three-day festival this December.
Anticipation was sky high at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre as thousands of eager fans waited for the arrival of members JB (Im Jae Bum), Jr. (Park Jin Young), Mark, Jackson, Youngjae, BamBam and maknae Yugyeom. One can imagine the roaring cheers and the excited rush to the front once the charismatic boys emerged on stage.
The wait was certainly worth the while. IGOT7s got to revel in a night of infectious tracks like ‘Girls Girls Girls’, ‘Stop Stop It’, ‘A’, ‘Just Right’, ‘If You Do’, ‘Be My Girl’, and ‘Bounce’ from JJ Project. With refreshing beats, and powerful dance routines infused with bouts of martial arts tricking, GOT7’s live performances are both an eargasm and a visual feast! There were also a plethora of opportunities to interact with the charismatic members during hilarious games, high-touch and group photo taking.
As a multi-national group with members hailing from not just Korea, but also America, Hong Kong and Thailand, GOT7 worked the overseas stage with ease as they engaged and teased fans in a mixture of languages.
During introduction, cheeky BamBam got the crowd hollering his name when he asked, “What’s my name?” When probed if they missed their local fans, he went “Singapore fans are really cute, really beautiful and sexy”, sending the crowd into a frenzy. “Not just the girls,” Jackson added, “The guys are hot too! Especially the one in the rider jacket,” pointing to a male fan in the front row.
Mark, on the other hand, was exceptionally talkative at the fan meet. The American-Taiwanese was imitating the emcee at one point – jokingly teasing the fans “We don’t have a lot of time!” while waiting for the lucky ones to go on stage for a game of musical chairs.
Fans like Nicole (18) and Clara (19), both polytechnic students, were in awe when their favorite member Jr. gallantly helped one of the contestants when she fell during the musical chairs. It’s not every day that your beloved idol helps you off the floor! Gentleman Youngjae also gave up his seat to the elated fan.
In another game of chain charades, there were some intense eye-contact moments between fans and the boys as they relayed the messages through adorable acting. When it reached Yugyeom’s turn, he was dumbfounded by the bizarre phrase that he had to guess – shopping for boxers in winter. The maknae’s expression went “oh, come on”!
Adding on to the ecstatic atmosphere of night were tads of spontaneous moments that the boys made so memorable for the fans – there were dance battle moments, where Youngjae rose to the challenge with Jr. and BamBam joining in and grooving at the back. Jackson did a freestyle beatboxing. There were also ‘Bamson’ moments when BamBam lamented how “fans (onstage) are all so tall”, and a bewildered Jackson retorted “Hello, you are taller than me!”
Rounding up the night, thoughtful fans prepared a touching video for GOT7 and a banner to surprise the boys when they turned around from the screen. Unbeknown to the fans, the banner (with Korean words) was upside down. It was a hilarious moment when Jackson pointed it out, and members decided to sweeten the deal by turning around again to be ‘surprised’!
Bidding adieu, leader JB called out to fans – “Thank you Singapore! We will see you guys next year. It’s a promise!” Looking at fans who were holding up banners with ‘Stay with you till the end’, members went “we will stay with you till the end too!”
Thank you GOT7 for the phenomenal night. We yearn for your return to Singapore.
Officially KMusic would like to thank Three Angles Group and JYP Entertainment for the great invite.
