GP Basic debuted back in 2010 with the track “Game” and straight from the start had to deal with controversy. They were considered the youngest KPop group at the time with an average age of 13.5. Their youngest member Janey, 12 at the time of their debut, was the source of much of the backlash towards the group. Shortly after their debut new broadcasting rules were implemented concerning the age of performers and Janey was not allowed to perform with the group.
In 2011 GP Basic made their first comeback with “Jelly Pop“, Janey was allowed to perform this time around and she garnered much interest for her confidence in not only dancing but rapping as well.
Just last year Janey took part as a special member in the group D-Unit but she made it clear when ever she was interviewed that she was still part of GP Basic and that they had not disbanded. Zion also took a turn going solo releasing the track “Blah Blah” featuring rapper Swings.
GP Basic original consisted of 6 members, Zion, Trinity, Amet, Mui, Janey and Leah but when the groups official Facebook page announced their impending comeback on January 1, it was also revealed that member Leah had left the group due to personal reasons.
Returning as a quintet with a powerful female hip hop concept, GP Basic released the teaser for their comeback track “Pika Bumjuk“. The teaser shows the girls wearing male version’s of the 80’s style South Korean school uniform. The sound and concept of the music video is sure to be a much needed reprise from all the sexy girl group comebacks that have been happening lately.
