HeeSun Lee, the Korean-American emcee from Staten Island, New York is soon releasing her third album, ‘Beauty for Ashes’! In preparation, she recently teased fans with her upcoming album’s official cover.
HeeSun was born in Korea and adopted by Chinese parents in the U.S. Growing up with musical influences from Will Smith and Lauryn Hill to Tupac Shakur, her diverse experiences can be felt and heard through her representation and expression of them in her music. “My biggest struggle growing up was with my identity and it all correlates with being stereotyped and not knowing where I belonged because I was adopted.” This can be easily felt in her ‘I Break Stereotypes’ single featuring MC Jin from her ‘Stereotypes’ album released in 2014—which placed #7 on iTunes Christian/Gospel Charts and #24 on Billboard Christian Gospel.
