On September 29th, rookie girl group HOT ISSUE released the music video their 1st comeback single, ‘ICONS’. The track comes off their 1st single album of the same name. Featuring the B-side ‘Hot Candy’, this marks the septet’s return in approximately 5 months. Debuting in April with the mini album, ‘Issue Maker’, title track ‘GRATATA’ introduced us to their chic concept. Under S2 Entertainment, it was founded by Hong Seungsung, a co-founder of Cube Entertainment. This time, the group looks to expand that young fierceness into an even catchier comeback.
The rookies also recently announced their fandom. Fans of the group will collectively be known as ‘SURE’. Standing for Surely U(Yours), Refulgently, Ever, it represents fans are sure to shine with the group forever. Its double meaning holds on the sure trust fans and the group have together.
Lyrically, ‘ICONS’ writes itself; the girls sing about how they write their own story in being icons and want watchers to embrace their energy. The hip hop infused instrumental incorporates a woodwind component throughout to ground the complex beat. Sprinkled with high hats and a trap beat, the flourishes all common in many 4th generation girl groups are elevated by the rising clean vocals of the act. This leads to a partial beat drop for the chorus as they coo the name of the track. Rap wise, there’s a combination of the charismatic and slightly cutesy rap style that blend together.

HOT ISSUE ‘ICONS’ MV:
Watching the music video, it is very performance heavy. The members dance to the choreography whilst expressing a sure attitude. Outfits are loud and classically mismatched in the teen crush style. From galactic sliver boots, tie dyed shirts and plaid, the combo selects from all trends in K-Pop and the girls make it work in their favour. The sets transitioning from neon lit warehouses to daytime gravel yard added a stark contrast to keep viewers interested in what they’d show next, whilst focusing on the track and dance routine.
HOT ISSUE‘s 1st single album, ‘ICONS’ featuring the identically named title track is available now!
