On November 24th, MAMAMOO member HWASA released the music video to her newest title track, ‘I’m a B’. This comes off her 2nd single album, ‘Guilty Pleasure’. Containing two other tracks (‘Fomo’ and ‘Bless U’), this marks the soloist’s return in 1 year and 5 months. Her last solo release, ‘Maria’ featured the same named title track and continued the success from her debut with the single, ‘Twit’. ‘Maria’, being the 1st mini album of hers, went on selling over 66,000 copies and its lead single was certified platinum by the Korea Music Copyright Association.
With this 2nd single album, the title ‘I’m a B’ is a play on words in Korean. It’s Korean title, ‘I’m a 빛‘ can be pronounced similar to ‘I’m a bit*h’. Hence, when sung in English it sounds badass. But in Korean, it can also mean ‘I’m a light’ which thing song’s lyrics allude to; being the light within a suffering world. This double meaning of confidence plays well into the artist’s fierce image and aura from performances.

HWASA ‘I’M A B’ MV:
Watching the music video, it truly highlights the well-rounded performance aspects he brings to the table. With charismatic attracting expressions, we see her dance to the choreography of the track. This features various sets from a warm but dark void, to Korean inspired sets. This demonstrates itself in the outfits with gold lace, a modern version of the traditional Korean dress (Hanbok) and black leather. The backup dancers do a great job supporting and creating a captivating performance. Notably, in the bridge the track enters a historical Korean instrumental and the graceful movements of the collective stand out in contrast to the rest of the bass dance heavy tune.
